Qualification points
Until you earn 10 qualification points you are unrated — play against different rated players.
Until a player earns 10 qualification points they are considered unrated, and all their games are qualifying. Points are awarded for games against different players:

How is the starting rating set?
All new players start at 1000 but count as unrated until they earn 10 points. For a more accurate starting rating, games against different rated players are strongly recommended.
A rated player's rating does not decrease when playing a newcomer (but it may rise). When two unrated players meet, both ratings change.
Note
If a player is inactive for more than half a year, they are reset to 6 qualification points — so they need to earn 4 more. They stay in the ratings, but several of their next games count under the qualifying rules.
