How to find someone to play table tennis with

Table tennis players near you, the nearby chat, local tournaments and clubs: find a partner or an opponent at your level and arrange a game.

Want to play table tennis but have no one to play with? In TTAR that takes a couple of minutes: find players nearby, ask in the nearby chat who is free tonight, sign up for an amateur tournament or find a club where players meet regularly. It works for a serious practice session and for a casual game of ping-pong "just to warm up".

How to find table tennis players near you

Open "Ratings" → "Near me" and allow access to your location. You will see table tennis players sorted by distance: the closest at the top, each showing how many kilometres away they are.

  1. Pick an opponentNext to each name you see the rating and the number of games played — they make it easy to judge a player's level.
  2. Open the profileTap the player: the profile shows their stats, game history and contact buttons.
  3. Get in touchSend a private message right in TTAR, or write on Telegram if the player has linked it. You need to be signed in for this.

Looking for an opponent at your level? Switch to the "By rating" filter and set a radius: only players nearby remain, ordered by rating, so it is easy to spot those whose rating is close to yours. How the rating relates to playing level is explained in "Playing level and ranks". And the "Active" tab shows who actually plays: over the last day, week or month.

How to ask in the chat who wants to play

The quickest way to find a partner for today is the nearby chat with players around you in the "Messages" section. Everyone within the radius you choose sees your message, and you see theirs.

  • Be specific: where and when you want to play and what your level is. For example: "Looking for a table tennis partner tonight around Clapham, rating about 1500, I have a table".
  • If it is quiet within your radius, widen it: the chat itself offers to extend the search.
  • To reply, tap a message — the author's @name appears in the input field. Tap the avatar to open the player's profile, from where you can message them privately.
  • Know a specific player? Mention them with @: they get the message even if they are far away or have turned the chat off.
Nobody learns your location
Distances in the chat are approximate — accurate to about 500 m — and exact coordinates are never shared with anyone. If someone behaves unacceptably, you can block them or report them to the moderators. More in "Safety".

Where to find amateur table tennis tournaments

A tournament is the best way to play several new opponents in a single evening. In "Tournaments", turn on the "Nearby" filter to keep only table tennis tournaments within the radius you need, or sort the list with the "Closest to you" option in the filters.

  • A tournament card shows the date, the place, the number of participants and the rating limit — you can see at once whether it suits your level.
  • You can sign up right on the tournament page. If it is full, join the waitlist: when a spot opens up, you are moved into the roster automatically.
  • Tournament matches go into the rating once the tournament is finished — more in "A tournament and the rating".

No suitable tournament? Run your own: any player can create a tournament, and the app builds the bracket and works out the places itself. For regular club nights a ladder is handy: the winner moves up a table, the loser moves down, and over one evening everyone gets to play lots of opponents. For the available formats, see "Tournament formats".

Where to play table tennis: clubs near you

If finding a table matters more than finding an opponent, check "Venues". It lists table tennis clubs and venues with addresses, opening hours, the number of tables and prices, the closest to you first. A venue's card shows its upcoming tournaments, and at some venues you can book a table right in the app. Where tournaments are held, there is usually a regular crowd of players too.

Telegram chats with players in your city

In many cities players arrange games in Telegram groups, where they register played games through the @tt_rating_bot bot. The list of these groups is on the "Ratings" → "Chats" tab, the closest to you at the top. Open a chat and join the local community.

Played a game? Enter the score

After the game, register the result: your opponent confirms the score, and both ratings update right away. The more games you play, the more accurate your rating — and the easier it becomes to find an opponent at your level. For how the rating works, see "How the rating is computed".
